48 Hour Practice

The 48 Hour Practice is a philanthropy event sponsored by Athletes in Action at the University of Arizona and the Student Athlete Advisory Board.

World issues like AIDS, famine, drought, etc sometimes seem so big that we can feel helpless to do anything about it.  We decided to use the gifts we were given, those of athletics, to help.  Our desire is to put our faith in action and take Jesus' words, to help those in need, seriously.  (While AIA is a Christian organization, this event is non-religious and we believe the cause is one that everyone can get behind.)

From April 27th-29th, 2008 over 120 University of Arizona student athletes participated in the 48 Hour Practice, with each Arizona team taking 2 one hour shifts to "practice" in the center of campus (the U of A Mall).  The event raised nearly $1,700 which went to Blood:Water Mission.  This money helped place clean water wells in Kenya. Blood:Water Mission has also placed clean water wells in Uganda, Zambia, Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Ghana, CAR, and Liberia.

The Blood:Water Mission is a non-profit organization founded by the members of the multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning band, Jars of Clay, to address the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa.

Blood:Water Mission exists to promote clean blood and clean water efforts in Africa, tangibly reducing the impact of the HIV/AIDS pandemic while addressing the underlying issues of poverty, injustice and oppression. Blood:Water is building clean water wells, supporting medical facilities, and focusing on community and worldview transformation, both here in America and in Africa.
